Hi

When I was with Plusnet my email address was

my_name@my_domain.plus.com

I left Plusnet due to poor service but yesterday I received an email from
myself, i.e. the above email address, on my old Plusnet account to my new
account which isn't a Plusnet one.

Surely this isn't a coincidence

My security software picked it up as a phishing email eve though the email
contains nothing.

Any ideas what this is?

You probably have a virus or worm on your PC.
It's using your address book, check the sent items box. When you leave the
ISP they cancel your account, so it wasn't from them.

Well... for starters your email account with Plusnet almost certainly is still
active.

The mail you received will almost certainly simply have forged headers though
and is *very* unlikely to have actually come from Plusnet's mail servers.

The same kind of thing has happened to me fwiw.

No. Plusnet simply downgrade the account to a free dial-up account. I also have
my old FreeUK account too.

Either someone you know, who has your old addy in their address book,
has a virus that puts the address book addys in the "from" field or
someone is just using your old addy as the "from" address in their
spam/phishing.

I'll bet it's in someone else's though.

That's all it takes.

I was *very cross* when I started getting spam to my main emal addy that hadn't
had an ounce of it in years. It simply means someone I'd once emailed had poor
security.

It is spoofing in a Spam message. Pretty alarming the first time you
receive what appears to be a message from yourself offering fix you up with
drugs, young girls, pirate software etc.

Try not to respond!
