VERY slow network performace over wan

Hi

I have a really strange problem with a 2003 server.
I have to physical locations with a VPN connection between the two offices.
The speed is 10Mbit/10Mbit at both ends.

I have a 2003 server (standalone) on the domain at site A and a 2003 DC at
site B.
(note that i also have tried this with a win XP machine at site B.

The problem that I have is when copying files from the Site A's 2003 server
to any machine at site B, the filecopying is taking forever. a 350KB file
takes about 1.5 - 2 minutes to copy that direction. BUT if I copy from Site
B's 2003 server TO the site A's 2003 server it goes smothely without any
delays or speedproblems and that would be a few seconds to copy the file.

I have been trying to coply from site A with other machines, DC's,
standalones and win xp to site B and NONE of those are having any problems,
just this 2003 server that is having problems with it.

The problematic 2003 server does not however have any problem copying files
on the local network to and from other computers/servers.

I have also tried to copy from the faulting 2003 server to another site C
and the same results are occuring. So this machine is definitly having
problems with getting outisde the local network with files.

Using "tracert" on the server and looking at that output seems to be fine
and it goes trough the correct gateway and so on.

This server has installed Veriteas backupexec 11d on it and that is all. It
is a HP Proliant DL 380 G5 server with dual network adapters NC373i. I have
tried both in teams and separatly with the same effect.

I hope someone can give me some help here, i have now been trying to figure
this one out for days...

You may want to modify the MTU. This search result my help,

Hi

I have already tried to cahnge the MTU with no change...
The VPN is a router to router tunnel so its not something i set up at the
actual server.

Problem is now solved!
It is a problem with the network card setting with 100/full duplex. the
thing that is really strange is that the problem wasnt on the local network,
but ONLY when trying to send files through the gateway!?

I have the following suggestions:

1. First I recommend you install the hotfix KB 923200 and other updates on
the problematic Server.
When you try to receive TCP data in Microsoft Windows Server 2003, the TCP
connection may be reset before all the data can be processed

2. Use command line to copy files, to see if the problem persists.
3. Disabled SMB signing from security policies.
4. Force TcpWIndowSize DWORD to 65535.
Key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Servic es\Tcpip\Parameters
Name: TcpWindowSize
Type: REG_DWORD
Data: 65535 (DEC)

Reboot the server, try again to see if the problem appears.
