very slow connection ... why?

Hello!

I have a notebook using an integrated WLAN card (HP) and a PC using teh
NETGEAR USB Stick MA111.
I have a connection, all works properly, the configuration tool shows me
that i have a very strong signal, but i can only share files with about 20
kbit/s (!!!) instead of 11 Mbit/s!
Has anyone the same or similar problem?
Can anybody help me?
