1 domain controller (server01).
all clients on domain use this server for DNS. the server uses itself for
DNS also...
the interal AD domain has the same name as the externally hosted domain for
the website. so we had to manually configure a WWW "A" record to point to
the public address of the website. all pretty standard so far... right?
today suddenly they cant get to their website from within the office. i log
onto the server and verify this. now for the weirdness... if i ping
www.mydomain.com it resolves to some strange UUnet address!! if i ping "WWW"
(without the domain extension), THAT resolves correctly. however i cant get
to the website no matter what i do! i ran nslookup's using the public dns
servers that the ISP provides, i ran an nslookup using the default dns
server (which is server01).. all servers return the proper address! why then
would i get some strange address when pinging it, and WHY cant anyone
internal get to the website?!?!? this is one that ive never seen before.
spoke to the ISP, spoke to the webhost... no problems anywhere! what the
hell could be going on here????
