I have being with Sky Broadband for about three weeks so far, and I cant
fault their service.....
I initially went onto their 'free' service, while i ran my old BB on my
other line, as I had my doubts on how good an isp sky would be....

Well, very happy, no throttling, so I have upgraded to their max service,
for £10 a month I get unlimited BB (subject to FUP).

The line which Sky is running on, according to BT, two years ago would never
be able to get broadband, despite an engineers visit. When Sky activated it
synced at 2mb, and would stay connected for days, giving good speeds. Since
upgrading to their max service, the router synced at 3mb, i was able to
hammer it on torrent at the full 3mb speed, after about an hour it lost
sync.

Obviously the noise margin is up and down like a whores knickers. At the
moment, with a 2mb sync it is 6.5db, but it will go up to 14 or 15db. The
connection is using a adsl faceplate...

What factors would influence the changes in noise margin, and which ones is
it possible to do anything about?

Gaz

In reality, there is little you can do for most of the things which
cause noise problems. The things you could look at is making sure
your internal wiring is up to the job, no flat extension cables
anywhere on the circuit, disconnecting your bell wire from your master
socket (you should only have 1 master cosket), fitting a faceplate
filter & running a dedicated adsl link to the router, make sure that
none of your electrical equipment is radiating anything in the AM
band, the spot frequency I've been told to look for is 612khz in the
AM band.

Other than that there is little you can do...
