It's my belief that a router should always be the default gateway. By
router, I mean a real router, not a Server. There are too many variables and
inconsistencies using a server. You probably don't need a router unless you
have multiple LAN segments on your local network. I've never had much luck
with Watchguard products, but if it's routing OK for you now, just stick
with it.
