Greetings:

I am having difficulty finding information on setting up uwimap4
accounts on RH 9 distro with sendmail/exim/squirrellmail. I took over
the sysadmin a few weeks ago and can't talk to the old sysadmin for
various reasons. The software does, as evidenced by existing users
accessing IMAP through Outlook and SM via web. I've added new users and
can do all of the things users do, but I cant find info on how to create
the UWIMAP4/SM accounts. Advise is appreciated.

There is no such thing. The most common configuration is that uw-imap reads
/etc/passwd for a list of users. It and squirrelmail do not maintain a
seperate user db (unless you are using a sql db for account management or
something like that.) No, this is how it is setup most commonly: Squirrel
mail queries the IMAP server for msg info >>> IMAP queries the system (pam
or otherwise) for correct username and login.
So any unix account you create, should automagically have an email
account... with this exception:
Most likely your problem is setting up mail accounts at the MTA, and have
nothing to do with imap or sm.
For example, once a unix acct is created, you must setup an email alias in
Postfix.
So my guess is, you need to do this, whatever your MTA is, Postfix,
Sendmail, or whatever.

Mike:

I appreciate you putting me on the right track. I'd added a user prior
to posting and gave him an alias in /etc/mail/aliases, (I made the file
as it wasn't there) ran newaliases, and even sent a test email to
(E-Mail Removed) and (E-Mail Removed). (E-Mail Removed) email showed up
when I fingered the user but (E-Mail Removed) bounced. Other users get
their email to thier username and alias just fine through IMAP and SM
but the new user account doesn't. I missed something in the procedure,
apperently.

I'm certain that this is a Sendmail config issue, although I am not familiar
with Sendmail, perhaps try posting to comp.mail.sendmail... or read this doc
http://www.sendmail.org/m4/readme.html
It's possible Sendmail is reading another alias file, and not the one you
created. Did you refreash or reload the Sendmail process after running
newaliases?
Wish I could be of more help... I'm a Postfix convert...
