Hey,
Recently purchased a USRobotics 8054 wireless router. Runs really well, and
with a previous laptop had no problems whatsoever. However a new laptop
loses the connection every 2-3 minutes, then finds it again.

The only way for me to keep the connection up all the time is to maintain a
background ping to an external source - it seems lack of activity causes the
laptop to lose the connection.

Any help would be much appreciated.
Cheers,
Chris.

What firmware version on the USR8054?
Latest driver on the new laptop? Just because the laptop is new, doesn't
mean it has the latest driver.

Version 1.21h, it looks like there's an upgrade available to 1.64b34. Worth
doing?

As for a laptop driver (it's a centrino with built in wireless), i had a
look on the windows update site and no new drivers were available..

cheers.

I had frequent disconnects with the 1.21h firmware. I've done the 1.64b34
firmware upgrade and so far it's been running smooth since they released
that version.

About the centrino, What make laptop? The windows update site may not have
updated drivers and you would be better off going to the manufacturer for
updated drivers. Don't rely on Microsoft for updated hardware drivers.

Problem sorted..!
Was probably a combination of the firmware and the power management of the
wireless card which i read in some earlier posts.

Many thanks for your help,
