I have read about connection problems between wireless cards and the
USR 8054 router. Users will periodically loose their connection.
When i first bought this router i also bought USR PCMCIA cards for our
notebooks and never had a single problem.
Later, i bought an Intel MiniPCI card and i started having problems.
i noticed that my problems only occured when my notebook was on
battery power. i found a section in the intel ProSet software that
has power settings. the power management for the card was set to auto.
i set it to manual and cranked the setting to maximum performance. i
also made sure the transmission power was set to 100%.
This fixed the problem.
If you card doesn't have a utility like Intel then maybe the
manufacturer has some registry settings or something. I've never had
to do this with any other router or wireless card combo i support.
In my opinion USR should be on top of this; don't they do any testing
with other cards?
