I am a bit confused reading the USR site. Can I use a USR 5450 with my
cable modem, or must I have a router instead?

I am looking at the 5450 instead of the 8054 because my 8022 has had such
problem dropping network connections and I thought the higher gain antennae
of the 5450 might help.

5450 is only an access point. You need 8054 access point and router. 8054
with latest firmware is very stable. Like always my advice is to use router
and network cards from same manufacturer if possible. I use and recommend US
Robotics. In my opinion it is a very good product. They are slow with
firmware updates and there technical support needs improvement, but wireless
products are very good. They have add on 5db antennas which might help, but
give 8054 a try with latest firmware it might be all you need. Install
latest drivers on the cards as well.
