Using same line for voice and data... suggestions

Hello,

I use the same line for voice and data, and I'd like to somehow
distinguish between data and voice lines. I have two ideas of how to
do this, but I'm not sure how to configure either:

Option 1 - Distinctive Ring. Ma bell has this option where it rings
two times instead of once with two different lines. Can MGETTY be set
to only answer on one of these and not the other?

Option 2 - Delayed restart after hang-up. If a person calls and
mgetty answers, can mgetty be set to delay for 1-2 minutes before
accepting data calls again? This would allow folks to simply call
back and it'll ring long enough for me to get it or for the answering
machine to catch the call.

Option 3 - I have Caller ID working, and I'll only actually be dialing
in from 2-3 phone numbers. Can MGetty be set to only answer when
someone calls from one of these numbers?

If anyone else has other suggestions, I'd love to hear... thanks in
advance for any ideas, tips, or suggestions.

Thanks -- Alex

Yes.

No. Do it the other way around. mgetty has a ringback option. It will
not answer the phone on the first time. It will only answer if it rings
again within 30 sec of the first one stopping. Furthermore it will only
answer if the callerid the second time is the same as the first.

Yes.

Some modems have that feature built in. You can also buy switches that
detect the ring pattern. Years ago, I designed and built a box that would
connect my modem to the phone line for 1 minute after the ringing ended. I
would then phone home, let the phone ring a couple of times, hang up and
call back right away, to get the modem. I was able to adjust the dialing
modem timing, so that it would dial, time out on no carrier and then
redial, to make the connection.

What happens, if you don't have caller ID?
