Sure. Use the laptop with an RJ-45 Ethernet cable to set up the base
station. Once that's working, disconnect the Ethernet cable, disable the
port in Device Manager, then insert the wireless adapter and set that up.
You don't need anything except your cable from your modem connected to the
base station, and can use your laptop wirelessly.
