using the MN-500 with a ethernet router

My mother has cable modem going to a non microsoft 4 port
ethernet (wired) router. She has two of the ports used
with two computers, one Windows and one Apple. I would
like to connect my Microsoft MN-500 into one of the two
open ports on her router and by running setup by putting
the setup disc into my laptop configure the MN-500. She
does not want her router removed or any settings on her
equipment changed. Can I do this or am I running into to
many problems?

Don't use any software on your laptop, just go into Network Connections and
create the new one. You don't need additional software installed, but
you'll need to set your laptop to the proper Workgroup, matching the
existing one.

Just to make just to make sure. In following the above
instructions I should set the new workgroup settings to
the ones on the four port ethernet router? I ask this
because I don't want to communicate with the other
computers on the network. In this case my mothers. I just
want to connect to the internet wirelessly using my
notebook.

your files on your system.
