I am wondering if I can use the Ethernet printer direct connect computer to
printer. The CAT 5e male to male cable is suppose used for networking
printer to connect printer to a hub.
I bought a printer and I do not have USB A/B cable on hand. So I try to use
CAT 5e Cable.
I have problem when I install the drivers. I do not know how to enter the IP
address
information.

Thanks for help

Hi,

1- you need a crossover cable to connect your NIC directly to the printer. A
regulat CAT 5e cable won't work.

and

2- you need to manually specify the IP address of the printer from its
control panel. Then you can use this address when you install the printer on
your computer.

In addition to the other reply, see if you can find yourself an inexpensive
workgroup switch or even a hub. This is better than using a crossover
cable - you don't tie up your Ethernet card only for printing.
Regarding the printer and assigning an IP address - if you don't have a DHCP
server on your LAN (and you won't if you use a crosssover to connect) you
would need to manually assign an IP to the printer. Check with the printer
manufacturer for support on that.
