Can anyone let me know the settings to get this to work?

The stuff from F2S says use PPP over ATM with VMUX encapsulation. The
closest I have is PPOA-VMUX which looks the same to me. The
authentication is set to CHAPS and I have the PVC set at 0,39. The
diagnostics page shows the ADSL line is present. The router works for
the internal network but just sits saying connecting for ever.
IPCONFIG shows that I have DCHP setup fine.

I believe that F2S use BT as their provider and have Googled for help.
I found several sites but they must have a different firmware version
as the scene shots are different and I don't get the same options. I
believe my firmware is 2.21 (I can't check as I am on the works m/c
right now)

Any help would be gratefully received...

Hi Baldyman

The VPI should be set to 0
The VCI should be set to 38, not 39 as you say in your post
Authentication set to CHAP

There are excellent blow by blow set up directions for this device on
btowfaq.org

Hope this helps,

Mike

This should be 0.38 NOT 0.39 hope this helps .

I have set the PVC as described with no change. I looked at the
BTOWFAQ instructions but they are for an earlier firmware version
which bears scant resemblance to the one I have. Instead of a PPPOA
setup page I have a page called Multiple PVC for instance. This does
not have a 'Router with PPPOA' option so I chose 'PPP over ATM - VMux'

As far as I can make out, I have a working router which can see the
ADSL signal but ther appears to be a problem with the login process to
Freedom2Surf. I and someone else have checked the username and
password so there isn't a mistake there so I am making the rash
assumption that it is a protocol problem.

I have tried the F2S support line but I was on hold for ages with no
human to talk to.

I wish this was as easy as an EN5861 to setup!!

Hiya,

You need 0,38 rather than 0,39, which may be why it's causing problems
and not connecting. F2S do use BT's broadband network, and you might
like to have a look at
http://www.freedom2support.net/forum...s=&threadid=71
for information on required connection settings.

If, when you've tried the advice you've been given you remain
unconnected don't forget to double check that your login and pw are
correct.

As I said before, although I do not have exactly the same named
protocol, I am sure that the PPP over ATM/VMux setting is correct. I
have the username and gateway correct as is the password. The only
thing I don't have are the DNS server addresses. The network settings
of both computers is set to automatically obtain IP and DNS (which it
seems to do from the DHCP server on the router).

I guess I have to enter the DNS addresses into the router (as that is
the outward facing part). The fact that it just says 'Connecting' for
ever suggests it can't resolve the server to talk to.

Thanks for the forum link, I couldn't find that yesterday. I'll look
through the rest of the forum for clues as well. If you could clarify
where I need to put the DNS addresses that will probably get me going.

I was so shocked to get a reply from Support on a Sunday that I nearly
fell off my chair!!! Thanks!

It will get the DNS address automatically. Enable DNS forwarding on the router
and your computers will set the DNS address to the router's IP address and
it will forward it on to the one it obtains from your ISP.

If it's still not working now you are using 0,38 rather than 0,39 and is
still sitting "connecting" then try setting

username bt_test@startup_domain
password test (actually it's ignored, type whatever you want)

try to look at http://www.bt.net/digitaldemo

does this get stuck at connecting or do you get to showtime?

Hi,

PPP over ATM should be fine, I know of a few users that use that
without any problems.

DNS Server Addresses are actually listed on the page I directed to
you, primary being 194.106.56.6 and the secondary being 194.106.33.42,
however I shouldn't think that this would be the cause of you not
being able to connect, it would only cause you problems after you have
actually connected AFAIK.

If you continue to have troubles that don't seem to be going away, I
suggest you drop the support group an email at
(E-Mail Removed) where I am sure they will be able to help
you!

I'm not actually official F2S Support, neither was the inital poster,
it was just a voulenteer from the support site, however we do keep an
eye on newsgroups, but don't officialy offer support via it, our
prefered method of support is of course via our forums.

I have a line that is recognised as a 512/256 ADSL line by the router.
My network runs internally. The DNS servers do not resolve
automatically so I think that the F2S server does not understand what
my router is saying. I have tried entering the DNS server addresses to
no avail. It still says connecting..... ad infinitum. I guess the DNS
servers won't automatically resolve until I am logged into F2S which
seems to be the sticking point.

I'll tinker some more and may put a plea for help up on your forum. I
really only need someone who has already done this to let me know what
settings to use and the DSL-504 is a common enough router.

Thanks...
