Using AD in High-Latency satellite networks?

I have an environment where some areas (Off-Shore Oil and Gas corp) the
connection is very restricted using WAN Satellite links with 256 Kb/s, 512
Kb/s with latencies varying from 200 ms to 450 ms

I suggested using autonomous AD Forests, without Trusts, with no connection
to the AD Forest of the Main Office due the fact that users on board don´t
have Logins in the Main Office, working in a autonomous way.

I´m right? The High-Latency is a primary reason to NOT integrate the AD
environment? My idea is that RPC traffic works badly on WAN Links with
high-Latency connections (SLB ou SeaTEL Dynamic/Directional WorldWide
Antennas)

Hello FB,

To have replication working properly and also user authentication and data
traffic, you should have a T1 connection(1.5Mbit) or at least 1Mbit.

But must you connect them to your forest?

You're right, and this will not be happy. I would suggest Terminal Services
and thin clients instead.

It will be intersting but is not a concern now, i prefer to have several
autonomous forests and administer and manage separatedly insted having
replication problems, lack of contact in areas where the satellite may be not
function as planned...
