I have just installed Windows 2003 server, and I'm going to be
migrating from a workgroup to a domain network. I have many users that
have their own computers running various applications. I do not want
or need to use roaming profiles -- except for a few users -- but will
use group policies to create desktops and control other policies. The
problem I have is that a new user will be created in active directory,
and when that user logs on a new local profile is created. From the
testing that I have been doing, some programs are then not useable for
the new domain user. For example, I've had to reconfigure outlook, and
other programs. I went into users and on the local machine and added
the domain user. I've had to change permisssions on some files. Have
others encountered this and how did you solve it? Jude

Hi Daniel,
The migration tool seems to require a new installation of Windows XP
and not an upgrade. I will be dealing with clients that have been using
their computers for awhile, and I need to upgrade some from home to
pro. Ideas?
Thanks,
Jude

Jude,

User State Migration Tool requires machine belongs to domain in this case it
does not apply to WinXP Home.

A second option would use Files and Settings Transfer Wizard

See part 1 in this paper:
