OS - Win98 Second Edition
IE - Internet Explore 6
Outlook - Outlook Explore 6

Hi there,

I read Microsoft Knowledge Base Article - 177607
about this problem but its not helping.

Im getting the error message
"You cannot view the list of users at this time. Please
try again. "

When I try to assign specific users to shared resources I
get that message. I looked at the Above Article but found
nothing in there that could help. In Outlook Express 6, I
looked in the Tools-->Options-->Generals Tab, and found
nothing in there that asks for Outlook to be the default
MAPI Client. And the MAPI32.dll file is in the
windows/system folder. But for some reason im still
getting that error message. Does anyone know away to work
around this error message?

Thanks Alot Guys/Girls
Justin

User lists and user-level access control require that a computer be
part of a network that has a security provider, such as a Windows
NT/2000/2003 Server or NetWare Server. Is there one on your network?

If not, you'll have to specify share-level access control.

Alright

My Laptop has 2000 Pro on it. but i dont use it as a sever. I have a wireless router used to connect all the computer to the network. So you have to have NT/2000/2003 or somthing like that....as a server

On the computer with win98(the ony i was asking about) I thought I was able to just enter that computer's network name in that box for the user level access and make a users list with the "Users" option in the control panel. Guess not eh

Thank
Justin

You have to have a domain-based network for the user-level access feature to
work correctly. That requires a Windows NT or 2000/2003 Server with a
domain, not a workgroup.
