Usenet Providers?

I'm currently with Supernews via Forte's APN service.

I'm finding quite often that I get "Group not found" when dowloading
from .nzb files from Newzbin, and I think this is simply due to
Supernews policy of not listing every newsgroup ever created - I can see
why they do this, but it's bloody annoying when you can't download what
you want :-)

So I'm looking at providers that offers a bit more in the way of binary
groups but still offer the quality of service that Supernews provide.

I'm looking at Giganews and Astraweb, seems with Giganews you know
you're paying for quality, but you pay more for it, Astraweb look like
very good value, but I'm not sure what to expect in terms of
speed/completion (binary retention is stated at 25 days).

If they are good, I'm leaning towards Astraweb simply because you buy a
block of capacity rather than paying per month for capacity I might go
over, or might not get anywhere near.

TIA,
Paul

I've been using EasyNews for years and can't fault them. Unfortunately I
can't compare them to other providers simply because the thought hasn't
even crossed my mind to switch.

Perhaps a bit slow in adding newsgroups when requested - but apart from
that pretty good .

I've been using Astraweb for quite a while, on a Pay-as-you-go account, have
no problems with them at all.

i find http://www.usenetserver.com proivdes an excellent service

You can also sign up to a trial for 3 days to see if this is what you want
first.

Never had any problems while downloading from Newzbin while using them

Thanks. I think so far I'm settled on Giganews. Doesn't seem worth the
swearing and cursing when I can't get something I want because of £1-2 a
month :-)

cheers,
Paul

It is excellent value if you only want text groups, Paul wants binary
groups as well, which NIN don't offer.
