Usenet provided with ISPs

I know that Virgin provide binary Usenet and I've read that BT include
giganews (though I haven't found where on their site they say that).

How about Be (soon to be O2 it seems), PlusNet, Tiscali etc? It's
something that would affect my decision if I wanted to change from
Virgin cable.

Thanks

Noon

Service varies from ISP to ISP.
Check the homepages of every ISP that takes your fancy.

Well, I haven't found any mention yet of usenet on the sites I've been
to so far. Could be my fault, of course, but that why I was asking.

plusnet outsource usenet to supernews, service has been good since they
switched, no binaries though.

You should NEVER let such a trivial matter affect your choice of ISP.

There are many low cost news providers. Don't lock yourself into a deal with a
shitty ISP for something worth no more than £1 pcm.

Hey George, are you the same George Weston as in the latest edition of BT
Today? If so, good article mate.

Ooooh. Now I'm going to have to take the wrapper off and read it -
something I very rarely bother to do :-)

Even if an ISP currently supports binary newsgroups there is a good
chance that the service will not be 100% or it is likely that support
would be removed at some point. I moved twice in the past to ISPs who
initially had full newsgroup support and eventually withdrew.

The best answer is to buy in a Newsgroup service such as Astraweb. $10
for a block of 25GB (check website to confirm) or subscribe to a
monthly amount if you are a heavy user. There are plenty of other News
Servers.

This way you avoid incomplete headers and short retention term.
