To Russell (sorry, I deleted the messages!)

Thanks for the reply.

Do Pipex offer full binary newsgroup access?

When you say slow, what causes that, is it their servers or just the
contention ratio/users?

Thanks again for any info.

John

Their news server seems to run as fast as a 386 with a 1200baud modem :-}

My spamtrap address consists of "btiruseless" and @btinternet.com and is
valid.

I`ve seen (and used !) a BBC with an acoustic coupler, but never a
spectrum :-}

Come to think of it, did the Spec have *any* networking capability ?
(a cassette recorder doesn`t count ;-) )

dunno.

can't remember it having it as standard, but i'm sure there were some
multiface type things that'd help out here.

No, the bare spectrum didn't, but I also had an external dual wafadrive that
came with a parallel and a serial port. This was used with an acoustic
coupler to connect to some sort of BBS (I forget the details).

So few people who use the Internat use Usenet, ISPs probably don't see
the point wasting resources on it.

That'll be why there are never ever any new articles to read, then.

As far as I am aware, the majority of UK ISPs have a crap newsfeed. I
signed up with Teranews Free about 18 months agao and it's fast and
very complete.

The only cost is a once-only $3.95 setup fee! So go along to
www.teranews.com/ and give it a whirl!

Phil.

P.S. You can subscribe to a multi-megabyte download service too. I
forget what this costs.

I know plenty of people who use the internet, but hardly any who even
know what Usenet is, let alone go there.

It's mainly IM and IRC these days.
