Use wireless router as access point only?

Is it possible to use a wireless router as just an access point? I would like
to just uplink the thing into my exhisting hard wired network to give wireless
access to a few more computers. Can I just disable the router function and use
it like a wireless switch?(it has 4 ports also) It seems to have the same ip
address as my present router, 192.168.123.254. Is this possible to do? I
already have the wireless router so buying different one is not an option. TIA.

Sure. Just turn off the DHCP server so there won't be 2 on your LAN, and give
the router a fixed IP address on the LAN. Depending on your brand of router
there may be some other parameters, but this should do most of it.
