use shared fax over vpn?

Is it possible to use a shared fax on a 2003 server over a vpn?

The shared fax works fine from clients in the office. From a VPN connection
I can see the shared fax is there, connect to the "printer", but when the
fax wizard pops up it fails.

Is there something I need to do?
