vlans using dot1q protocol?

You need a NIC that will support dot1q.

Usually, HP hardware already have the drivers that enable the nic to support
VLANs / dot1q. It's done under the 'HP Network Configuration Utility'. For
other manufactures like Dell, etc, you may need to search through their
support website.

Regards.
