I just got a new harddrive, instead of installing the
software can I just plug the network cable directly into
my computer, will the internet work. I am using Windows
XP, and have a mn-500 basestation with all updates.

You don't need to use the software to setup the base station.

Assuming your ISP gives the router an IP, and your workstations use DHCP to
get an ip from the router, you probably won't have to do anything at all.
