I am looking at the USB Wireless Print Servers and they all say that the USB
printer must network capable. Does this rule small USB $150 canon inkjets,
which are inherently one user only?

I'm thinking that it's a matter of punctuation. The LinkSys page
http://tinyurl.com/n3je reads in the main text "Compatible with
virtually all USB, network-ready printers and major operating
systems..." and in the sidebar "Runs with Virtually All Laser, Ink Jet,
Bubble Jet, Color and Dot Matrix Printers". The former *is* confusing
(as is the fact that the server required an add-on access point),
leading me to believe that "USB, network ready" is all inclusive, which
it does not appear to be.

Not true. I have one field office that kept buying small HP DeskJets,
then calling me up to install them (we run NT4 on our PC's, so an
administrator is needed to install the printers). I ran into problems
every single time they wanted them shared out to other users in the
office. Many times the install routine would appear to work OK on the
PC's that the printer wasn't directly connected to, but print jobs
would fail when a user tried to print. Sometimes logging in as the
user and running the install routine again would fix the problem,
sometimes not.
