Hi there,

I am trying to add a new notebook to my existing 802.11b network.
Unfortunately the reception quality of the Netgear USB device I tried
is too bad. Can anyone share some experiences concerning very
sensitive usb 802.11b devices with a good operating range?

Thanks...

I have two of the Belkin F5D6050 adapters, they work better than
anything else I have, picking up signals from my neighbor down the
street at or near 100% level & quality while nothing else I have can
see it at all. (My other 802.11b devices are D-Link, Xterasys, US
Robotics, and Speedstream).

FWIW
Mike

Is your Netgear a 'dongle' ? Best get USB adapter on a 1m cable then you can
position it where you get best signal. Netgear is not very good, Orinoco is
reputed to have best radio but their Silver USB adapters are hard to find.
Regards,
Martin

Thanks for your recomondation Mike!

I will go and try one of those Belkin adapters. On their website there
is also a new modell F5D6050g with the 802.11g protocol featured. Does
it make a difference when it comes to reception quality and access of
an 802.11b Network (it should not, I guess...)?

Regards,

Hans

Could be different because of the redesign. Best deal I saw was on the
Belkin site, refurbished F5D6050 for $22.49 plus shipping, so I bought 1
there. I have also found the new D-Link DWL 120+ even more
sensitive-and it works with Network Stumbler.
