1. Use the USB modem on a PC and use ICS to share via ethernet into
the wireless thingy
2. Buy an ethernet modem having carefully researched that it is
compatible. DLink do such a thing, ADSL Nation X-modem, Westell 6000
3. Get a combined all-in-one wireless modem router in one instead.
The dlink.co.uk site says:

DSL-xxxx Products include an built in modem - no other modem is
required.
DI-xxxx Products do not include an ADSL modem and are intended for use
with Cable Modems. A DSL-300T can be use with DI-xxx products for use
on ADSL networks.
So the DSL-300T is the extra thing for £40 or so
