USB Modem and Wireless Router

Hi, I need to add a wireless router to a system that uses a USB modem for
broadband connectivity. Is there a way to setup the router to access or
share the internet connection, other than replacing the modem with a LAN
modem?
Internet share is already enabled and working using a D-Link hub.
Is there a way to just connect the Router to the hub and make it work as an
access point?
I tried but couldn't make it work with my limited understanding.
Thanks,
Luis

Since you didn't tell us what wireless router you're trying to use, it's
really not possible to answer your question.

If it's a Linksys, try this: http://makeashorterlink.com/?M24731D95

The computer with Internet Connection Sharing is the other "router", since
it will perform NAT routing.

You could elimiate the hub if it has enough ports to service your network.

What are you talking about here? What is a LAN modem? The modems I have
seen work with a cable or a telephone line. If you want to connect a
device that uses a USB jack into a device that uses a RJ45 jack, you get
a USB to RJ45 jack converter or in the reverse order RJ45 to USB jack
converter. They cost like $10

Yeah, you can plug the hub into the router's *uplink* port to extend the
network and plug another hub into that hub to extend the network some
more and so on and so on, since the router can control up to 255
machines.

But why use the hub period, since the router has 4 ports that you can
plug at least 4 computers into it, unless you have 20 wired machines you
need to have plugged up, then the *uplink* port comes into play with a
sstand alone hub or switch. A the router most likely has a built in
*switch* which is better than a *hub*.

Also you'll read that a NAT router for the home doesn't have a firewall.
It has at most NAT and may be SPI -- FW like but not a FW.

A router with a FW will be able to stop inbound and outbound traffic by
default.

The protection of the machine starts with the O/S and everything is
secondary to it.

The link talks about all of the Win O/S(s).

I apologize, I should have said "Ethernet" rather than LAN....
I think you are right, the hub is in the way... I will try that.
Thanks for all that helpful information,
Luis

I've posted a few times that when I replaced my USB DSL modem with a
LAN modem (Cisco 678), I realized the USB modem had not been giving me
anything near the download speed I was paying for. I was getting
about 370K from a 640K connection. I paid only $60 for the used Cisco
678 - well worth the money if you are already investing $$$ in
wireless hardware. Plus, you need not leave a computer on all the
time that way for the network to function.
