US Robotics Wireless question

We have 2 USR 2249 access points.
The first one is connected through ethernet to a machine,it is in
access point mode and there is one wireless client connecting to it.
I want to setup the second access point in a different part of the
building as a repeater for the first one. I set up repeater mode for
the second one and enter the MAC address of the first one. The clients
than can see the second access point but they cannot connect to it.
What could be the problem? Should both acc. point have the same
SSID's? Maybe the problem is that there is a ethernet connection to
the first access point.
