Upgrading SMC PCCard drivers

I wanted to see if the NetStumbler 0.4 recognized my SMC2435W card, which
it still doesn't. Then I thought there might be a newer driver on the SMC
site, and there was. I've had no problems since install, so I never looked
for a driver.

I downloaded the new stuff, updated the driver, and a windows popup saked
for the old driver by name. (SMSLN.SYS is now SMCWLAN.SYS).
After several rounds of uninstall-reinstall and searching for files, I
discovered that there was an SMCWLAN.inf file in my INF directory with a
timestamp one minute newer than the one that came with the new version, and
it was different. I deleted that, tried again, and it worked.

Is that a little too bizarre? I don't know where it came from.

Still doesn't work with NetStumbler, though.

Google found an article on the Netstumbler mailing list that indicated
that one user had to use the NDIS 5.1 driver to get it to play and
that the Prism chipset was NOT recognized by Netstumbler. Search for
2435 in:
http://www.netstumbler.org/archive/index.php/t-7056-p-3
Furthur down, another user was able to get it to work without the NDIS
driver (which does not give correct S/N numbers) and found that the
SMC driver from Europe was the only one that worked. Bottom line is
that SMC products and drivers are weird.

It blue screened on the first restore from hibernate.
Then it couldn't get an IP, although it had an excellent connection.
Out with the SMC, in with the Orinoco.

That's the same one that's on the US web site.
The Zip has a different name, but the contents of the Win2000 and WinXP are
the same in both archives.
