Upgrading my router and a Windows network

I have a home network setup using an 802.11 B router and three computers.
I would like to upgrade the router with a newer 802.11 G type.

If I "swap" the routers and set it up to connect to the internet, would the
new router recognize and pickup the existing network, or do I need to delete
my current network and set it up from scratch again once the new router is
in place. And should I delete the network prior to installing the new
router?

If you merely power down everything, then replace the router and power it up,
then power up the PCs, the LAN will probably all come back if you had vanilla
settings on old and also on new routers, and if the new router uses the same
IPAs. As for the WAN, some ISPs may deny access because the new router will
have a different MAC than the old; if so, call your ISP with the old and new
MACs.

It may not be that simple, but deleting the old network is not the answer;
you'll need to figure out what is not working after the swap.
