Greetings

Can I upgrade my computer to accept usb?

Over the past few years I have noticed more and more use of the usb
phenomina. I recently went to computer store and asked them if I could
upgrade my computer, with a card, so I could plug in scanner or usb mouse or
digital camera. When I told them it was a pentium 100, they said no but I
could see by their faces that they were trying to hold back laughter.

My computer is 64 mgs of ram and 4 g of hard drive.

Is it possible to buy a card which would allow me to input or output a usb
buss?

If not why not? My computer technical knowledge is somewhat limited.

My reason is the wireless system and scanner and digital camera.

Larry

Several manufacturers make a PCI based USB expansion card (just like all
other internal expansion cards really), so if your PC has a spare internal
slot you can buy the card with (usually 2) USB ports and there you go. You
did not mention what version of Windows - if you are running Win95 you might
have problems with USB support, but otherwise it should work out of the box.
The expansion cards are about $20US at most computer stores.

You may find you dont have a fast enough processor (Pentium 100) or enough
memory to run the applications that are associated with some of the USB
peripherals, but the USB port will work and you can transfer photos from a
camera (for example) etc.

Ask at a different (more accommodating) store.

hehe - I would never be surprised at a quick response, but the "positive"
part might be a surprise. <grin>
