I currently use AOL Dial-up and am considering "upgrading" to Plusnets
dslConnect 150kbps as it is the same price as the AOL service.

My only concern is that I have a low end/old PC which may not be up to
the task and in particular I recall hearing about problems with
"early" USB implementations.

Can anyone provide some advice/pointers.

TIA,

KJR.

System Info:

Microsoft Windows 98 SE 4.10.2222 A

GenuineIntel Intel(r) Celeron(tm) Processor

128MB RAM

Intel 82371AB/EB PCI to USB Universal Host Controller

I am running a WIN98FE upgraded from WIN95 to get the USB ports
working, with a Pentium2 300MB and 64MB RAM on tiscali150 and it
breezes along, no problem. I am using a Speedtouch330 USB modem which
I rather thought was not for 98FE but here I am.

USB ADSL modems use the computer's CPU which can cause problems with big
downloads / P2P etc.,
but as you are considering 150k it may not affect you.
Otherwise you could get a Ethernet ADSL modem and NIC which would avoid the
potential problem.

Be aware that the 150k deal is re-sold Tiscali service and last time I
looked you would get better price from Tiscali - much lower connection
charge.
I would recommend that you go for the 'full monty' PlusNet 512k at £18.99
p.m.
mine hasn't missed a single bit since May installation, worth the £3 p.m
extra.
Regards,
Martin
