Looking to upgrade a 2.4ghz / 802.11g antenna on a Netgear router.

Has anyone upgraded to a 5dbi antenna connected to their router with a 20
foot or longer cable and had it mounted in their attic? I have a range
problem and would like to centrally locate the antenna to get better
coverage.

Any websites selling the antennas and cable would be helpful.

Thanks-

Try some free reflectors before spending money on an external antenna.
http://www.freeantennas.com I like the EZ-10.

Are there similar antenna designs available for 802.11b wireless aps?

You'll kill your signal with 20' of cable. It would be better to mount the
AP closer to the attic, and run 20' of CAT5 to it.

"b" and "g" are the same frequencies, so the freeantennas are good for
both. It's "a" that is a different frequency.

Generally so, but there are some pretty good cables out there.
From 6dB loss down, less if you wanted to go with semi-rigid stuff.

The right way is cat5.
