Updating Boingo via wired connection?

I signed up for a minimal Boingo prepaid plan to be able to use the
service with my laptop as I travel. I live 80 miles from the nearest
Boingo hot spot. I was interested in updating the location database in
the Boingo client software, but it has to be accessing the net via the
WiFi to work. OK, I ran an Ad-Hoc network with another PC using ICS
(Internet Connection Sharing). I could surf the net, etc. But the
Boingo software would not update.

What does the Boingo software require before it will update? Must you
be signed on a Boingo site? Could my firewall be preventing the update
from working? Ideas?

I just tried, while connected to a LAN, no WAP available. It said no
updates were available, but it appeared to connect. I unplugged my LAN
cable, and it gave me a message that said I was offline.

You could download a new copy of the BoingoInstaller.exe. That should
contain the latest listings. The latest listing is wruntime1.mdb from
11/17/2003, so you are probably current.
