unstable wireless connection, why?

I have a D-Link DI 514 Wireless Router. And I am using DSL service.
The operating system is XP Pro.

The wireless connection is so unstable that it goes on and off, on and
off frequently even if my computer is only 10 meters away from the
router.

And once it gets connected, XP says the signal is either "very good"
or "excellent". But then why so unstable?

Can you guys explain why? And how can I improve the situation?

Make sure you have the current wireless drivers for you card and OS. If you
are using XP's Zero config utility, try not using this and use the wireless
card maunfacturer's control utility instead. It may be that both are trying
to control the wireless connection. Use one or the other. Make sure your
router firmware is up to date.

Bob: I had this same problem
It was fixed with a warranty return of a router to Linksys

Do a search for "frequent disconnects" in this newsgroup to see if
your symptoms are the same
