Unstable Wireless Connection. Help Needed! (TrueMobile 1300 / Netgear WGR614v2)

I have a Netgear WGR614v2 Wireless Router plugged into my cable modem. My
Toshiba (Satellite 2455-S305) laptop has a Dell Truemobile 1300 miniPCI card
installed, and is running WinXP Pro (SP1, and Wireless Rollup Pack
installed).

What I find is that after approximately 45 min, my connection just drops.
However, the little icon in my system tray continues to appear normally. My
AIM tells me connection lost, and no internet works - I know I am not
online, but the icon says I am. The range is not the problem, it is always
"Excellent" or "Very Good" in my whole house.

I don't know if the problem is my router or my PCI card or winXP settings...
I've tried updating the firmware of the router, and the drivers of my card,
none worked. I've changed the channel of the Router from 11 to 1 (someone
suggested that in another post), but, alas, no luck.

The only way I know to fix this is to turn off the miniPCI card (I have a
switch on the side of my laptop), and turn it on again. But this is a very
annoying problem - there must be a real way to fix it. The connection
should not be flaky like this, it should be stable. So I turn to you, the
internet community, to PLEASE HELP ME!

Thanks so much!

Disable the Zero wireless config in XP. Reload Truemobile wifi drivers and
use only that to setup the card.

Martin

Hi there

I had similar trouble and it turned out to be an XPism.

XP has its own wireless management system and it is possible that this and
your card management system are competing

Go to My Computer. Right click. 'Managge' ---> 'Services and
applications' --> Services ---> Wireless Zero Configuration. Set start up
type to disabled.

Re start

Good luck.

I disable wireless zero configuration, but I still lost the connection.
What else can it be?! The icon in the system tray still says connected, and
"excellent" reception, but no more internet works. This happens whether or
not WEP is on. Please help...

Is it just your laptop loosing the internet connection i.e. does the router
stay connected ?
Does it happen when doing long downloads / P2P ?

Martin

The router says that it is connected (or so the lights indicate). It
happens during downloads, yes. (Bittorent, etc.)

Does that help any? Again, the laptop does NOT say disconnected...all
indicators say it is connected (both the Dell Utility, and the
2-computer-monitors-flashing in the system tray)...

What should I do?

After you disabled it did you reboot?

Maybe a reinstall of the card drivers. They should be on a support CD with
the delivery.

I had similar issues to you described. The disabling of the native wireless
control did the trick for me

Good luck
