I believed my network was secure with 128-bit WEP and MAC filtering however,
my neighbor just informed me that he was able to log into my wireless
network and search the INTERNET through my ISP. What is going on here? I
can't even log on my laptop without entering the WEP key!

Microsoft MN-700 Router

HELP!

Randy

Did you actually see this, or is the person just claiming he can do that?
I'd go visit his computer and see it is actually being done. BTW - WEP is
not very secure, I would be using WPA on the MN-700. Change your channel,
change your password, and give your LAN a unique name (don't use Workgroup,
for instance).

Chris,

Thanks. I knew that WEP was not as secure but I am not running anything
that requires the system to be "secure," just protected. I did not use WPA
because my laptop uses WindowsME and when I attempted to set the router to
WPA, it warned of other operating systems not being compatible. I
ass/u/me'd that included WindowsME.

I will change the other "attributes" you discussed.

No, I did not see him accomplish this task. I will see about checking his
network.

I appreciate the quick response!

Thanks,

Randy

Sometimes people "think" they're connected to something, but don't really
know. Change the settings on your own system, and don't tell him. See if
he still brags about being able to connect. 8-)
