Thanks for this. Today when I opened I checked this and all places for the active destop to be on or off showed it to be off. However, it hasn't happened today. Also, I'm working on this for a friend and I learned that it was seeking to create a connection before it was on the network and they always ignored it. Is there any other reason why it do this - in case it starts again
Thanks agai

For some reason, the 98 sends a command to the xp to connect to the internet via the dial-up modem and it does connect - and I have internet access over the network. The problem is that when disconnected, the xp system is constantly being told by the 98 system to connect and it interrupts the xp's work. How do I stop this? Thank
Win98 's Active Desktop always seeks to be online, and will keep sending "keep alive" pings to the XP unit, causing it to fire-up the dial-up. Either disable the Active Desktop, or do what I did before..... put a toggle switch on the phone line coming off the XP unit
