Hi folks...

Been having lots of problems with my DSL line, on and off for a couple
of years. Did get it fixed at one point when some kind BT engineer
swapped the pair, but I'm back where I started as of about three months
ago. I haven't had the time up till now to put in a new call, but I did
change routers to a Belkin F5D7630 badged Micra Digital some time ago..
TNA. I can't keep a vpn connection open for more than twnenty minutes or
so and it's bugging the hell out of me, but last time I spoke to my ISP
@ home they told me (C&W engineers) that the following stats were
normal(?).. this is a BT line, all copper, ca. 2.5km from major
exchange. Never had more than 2048/448, been interleaved and fast and
back to interleaved, also the ppp connection terminates when it rains..
don't know what FEC/HEC errors are so I need some ammunition for the
call centre .. this is driving me mad cos' I tested all the equipment
at a friendly neighbours' place and got >3mbps stable.

>>--snip--<<

Link Type Fast Path
Up/Down Stream 461/1600
Up/Down Noise Margin 7 dB 7 dB
Up/Down Attenuation 82 dB 62 dB

Error Indicators (Near End/Far End)
Fast Path FEC Correction 0 0
Interleaved Path FEC Correction 328376 34277
Fast Path CRC Error 0 0
Interleaved Path CRC Error 142249 156
Loss of Signal Defect 0 ---
Fast Path HEC Error 0 0
Interleaved Path HEC Error 18725 0

>>--snip--<<

Regards....j

Suggest you change to a professional ISP first. Either Andrews & Arnold or
Zen.

Then get the ISP to call out BT - ideally having logged the faults caused by
rain.

If the line length is 2.5km the download loss at 62dB is rather high ...
