Unknown station on network

This will probably be a silly question to most of you, but I'm brand
new to this so I hope you'll bear with me.

I just set up and configured a wireless network in my home using a
Netgear M814v2 router and Netgear MA111 wireless adapters at each of
my 3 computers.

Configuration: Infrastructure Mode, SSID, Fully Automatic Transfer
Rate.
Security: WEP Enabled 124 bit, Created with Passphrase, MAC required

On one of my computers, the configuration utility panel shows an
additional access point. It is on a different channel and indicates
no WEP. Interestingly enough, the signal strength is higher on it
than on my own access point. Is this a problem? Is it a neighboring
network? Should I/Can I get rid of it?

It only shows up on one of the three computers.

Thanks,
Lynn

It sounds like a neighbor's network nearby. You won't be able to get rid of
it unless you talk to the owner and convince them that they don't need it -
probably unlikely.

On the other hand, its existence shouldn't have any affect on your network
as long as you are on separate channels (preferrably channels far apart as
some channels are shared). Just take reasonable precautions to protect your
net and you should be fine. You've taken the first steps with WEP and MAC
filtering. Changing the WEP keys on a regular basis will help keep your
network secure. I'd also recommend disabling the SSID broadcast feature on
your router.
