Hi! Yes, it was a DNS issue. Turns out my DC wasn't at the top of the DNS list
(my fault, not a Guru by any means) and when I actually got an error that
was searchable I was able to track it to a page that said the DC should be first
on the DNS list.
So I updated the list, but it at the top and like magic TONS of stuff started working
properly again! Not one I'm likely to forget any time soon.
Thanks for the reply though, I have a feeling you were sending me on the right
track!

Sounds like DNS issue. WINS helps but it is better to have a correct DNS settings. By the way, do you have DC running?

I'm not really sure what the problem is, so I'm having a hard time
narrowing down my search for a solution, so I'm hoping people
here can help.
WAY back in the say we had a NT 4.0 DC Server that ran our
domain (called 'domain'). We moved locations and to keep the
group of us running we upgraded to a Windows 2000 Advanced
server. This was going well and then we added a Windows 2000
Server.
Life was good until the Windows 2000 Advanced Server died, then
all of a sudden weird errors started happening.
People logging in take 5-10 minutes to authenticate (set WINS
server seems to clear up most of that), people who are attached
to the network find that they can no longer print. Some people
can see the server but cannot see other machines on the network.
In general it looks like something is not being properly registered
or connected, but I don't know where to look. I'm pretty novice
with servers, and I'd rather not rebuild from scratch.
Does any one have some ideas of what may be happening?
