Uninvited profile change

Greetings,

I have an IBM ThinkPad using ThinkVantage Access Connections to connect to a
wired home LAN via a Belkin AP. When powering up, it automatically connects
to the LAN using a named profile. However, some ten or so minutes later it
reconnects using a profile called 'unknown', which in all other respect is
identical to the named profile. Naturally, all internet and LAN links are
reinitiated, interrupting work in process. Can someone suggest what
initiates this uninvited profile change?

Thanks
Larry S

Jack,

Many thanks for you quick response. Unfortunately, your first link doesn't
work, and the second leads to a very good article. However, I have done all
that is suggested in the article.

I should have said that, once the profile has switched, all seems to
continue without further switching. Puzzling.

Hi
Sorry about the first link, http://www.ezlan.net/Wireless_Config.html
Try Windows Zero configuration, and the Original Wireless Utility. Make sure
that when you trying one the other is Off.
Jack (MVP-Networking).

Ahh, perhaps that was the problem: Windows Zero Configuration services was
also on. I have disabled it, as the ThinkVantage utility works and I am
used to its interface.
The next few days should tell if the two were 'arguing with each other.

Thanks for sending the corrected link - the hint was in it.
