This is a FAQ in the ntl newsgroups.
Turn EVERYTHING off. Attach all the cables.
Turn on the modem, Wait one minute.

Turn on the PC, wait one minute
Magically it will all work.
Explanation: If you change the network device plugged into the modem,
you need to power everything down for long enough for ntl to release
the MAC binding at their end, so that you can get a new IP for the
new device.
If you ever reinstall the router, then at the line marked *** above,
turn on the router and wait one minute.
