Unceased Cease

Is there anything that can be done about a cease that hasn't happened
when it should have? My ISP (Fast24) advised a cease date at the end
of October. This hasn't happened and Fast24 blame BT Wholesale.

I have no faith in Fast24's ability to resolve it with BT as I've been
waiting for 2 months now for my broadband to get fixed after BT
allegedly botched the migration from Centralpoint to Fast24 and despite
any number of chaser calls Fast24 still tell me they're escalating it
with BT and will get back to me (they never do).

I've complained to Ofcom but am not sure whether this will achieve
anything.

Is there anything else I can do about this short of order a new BT
line?

Speak to a new ISP, they may be willing to help badger BT.

Slip a BT engineer a fiver.

Rather than get Fast24 to cease, ask them for a MAC which they won't have
to wait on BT for (unless the problem is that the line is still tagged to
Centralpoint, in which case bugger off Fast24 all together and have them
issue you the MAC/cease).

Any BT engineers reading this who can help out? Drinks will be
forthcoming!

I had a MAC some weeks ago and passed this to Bulldog who said it
couldn't be used as it was for a different type of product? Made no
sense to me, but Bulldog told me I must get a cease from my current
supplier before they could do anything.

So I'm basically fubarred.

Bulldog have got a /very/ bad name recently. You may be better off going to
another ISP.

You've been granted a second chance to pick your new ISP.
There'll be a few out there wishing they'd had a second chance.
Go to www.adslguide.org.uk and compare service providers.
Put in a few of the other ISPs you've considered.
I think you'll find Bulldog vary from around average down towards
poor.

Indeed. BT Wholesale will need to accept a 'cease' from your old ISP.
You might get a response from BT Wholesale if you threaten to cancel
your BT line, on the grounds that your ISP claims to have done this
yet the line appears to be in limbo with ADSL from Fast24 as active.

Unfortunately they are correct, because the MAC is for transfer by BTW
from one ISP to another ISP (where the second is also buying services
from BT Wholesale, so it is meant as a simple way to organise handover
and ensure billing etc goes from the one ISP to the other). Switching
to use an LLU company (Easynet/UKOnline, Bulldog, to name two) means a
change from a BTW ADSL service to ADSL/SDSL from the LLU firm, they do
not use the MAC at all, as it's not related to LLU whatsoever. Do you
plan to have voice service from Bulldog ? If so, then maybe that can
be requested first, with Bulldog enabling ADSL on the line afterwards,
since switching from BT to Bulldog for voice will automatically cancel
the ADSL from Fast24. I guess Fast24 might be culpable, but sometimes
an ISP believes in all good faith that a cancel has gone through to BT
Wholesale and BTW says no, the line is active. Happened to me too and
the ADSL was presumably paid for by Freeserve whereas they had stopped
charging me 2 months earlier. I got nowhere speaking to BT Wholesale,
twice, actually to check if the line was still classed as active (they
weren't keen to speak to me, but did confirm a few things when told my
ISP already classed the account as being closed). Peter M.

perhaps, and no claims for excellent customer service, but a friend is quite
happy, and I must admit to being fairly tempted, given they are active in my
area, and Plus.Net has made Usenet awkward to use (for binaries at least)...

UK ADSL <http://tinyurl.com/dghgq> - Happy to save cash with Plus.Net!

Unsuitable for heavy downloaders, but fine for video/audio streaming.
