For some reason the other day the Communications portion of my Win98 setup
broke. That is my PC rebooted for no obvious reason and when it came back
up again it would not connect to the outside world through either
Ethernet/DSL or dial-up networking.
So I hauled out my trusty Win98 CD and asked it to uninstall and reinstall
all of the Communications features which were already installed on my
system:
Several HUNDRED "unable to find file" error messages later I have managed to
get ONE of the NINE items in the Communication section reinstalled.
Could someone please explain to me where I am supposed to find all of those
hundreds of files that the install process insists are not to be found on my
CD?
How the H**l did the seven features get installed in the first place if none
of those files are on the CD?
For example one file it complains about is rnaserv.dll, which EVERYBODY
seems to misread as maserv.dll because of the crappy font that M$ displays
the message in. Try and figure that out when you are cut off from all of
the usual information sources because your communications have died!
