Unable To Ping Outside Windows 2003 Server

Hi All,

We have a Dell PowerEdge 2850 (Windows 2003 R2 Std Ed. Service Pack 2) with
Intel Pro/1000 MT nics and it is unable to ping outside itself. Pings to
localhost respond correctly and we have checked physicals. Any help greatly
appreciated.

Firewall enabled? What do you mean with ping outside, another machine in
your LAN? Please post an unedited ipconfig /all. Can you ping the server
from another machine in the LAN?

You know when you fist install Windows Server is comes up with that task
list for you to do (Windows Updates stuff like this) and it has at the
bottom something to the effect of Complete or Finished. Until you click that
it is greatly restricted on going out side you LAN. Is this a new Server?

Just thought I would post it in case....

Yes, and I've swapped cables, ports, and switches to check for a physical
issue.

Hello rich,

I would choose a smaller network. 10.1.x.x is really heavy, switch to 10.1.1.x
and 255.255.255.0 Or did you really need this amount of addresses?

I've pulled the Cat5 out of the server and plugged it into a laptop and I was
able to pull DHCP and browse google so I've pretty much eliminated switch and
physical issues.

Some research on Microsoft suggested rebuilding the IP stack from the
command line and after reboot the server did manage pull an IP address but
then stop responding again.

'Destination host unreachable.' normally means there is no routing table
entry which covers that address.

Suggest you post results of 'route print' from the server.
