After a power failure one of our W2K3 servers (not a
domain controller) will not let us log in. I get the
following message on the screen:
The system cannot log you on due to the following error:
The parameter is incorrect.
We are only using this server for SQL Server and Helpdesk
software. All of the services are running on the server
and we are able to access our web based files. The only
problem seems to be that we cannot log in to manage the
server.
I have never ran into this before. Any help would be
greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Do you have a backup of the machines system state? You may need to restore
that.

Do you have any idea what caused this to happen? I can't
even log in to a local account in safe mode.

I would venture to say that the local SAM has gotten damaged in some way,
but I'm afraid I don't know the exact cause.

The server is a member of the domain? Are you
using a domain account or a local account when
logging on? If you click on "options" on the logon
screen do you get a drop down list for domains?
If so are you choosing the domain or the computer
account?

It wouldn't log on with either type of account. I ended
up doing a restore on it. That is what I wanted to avoid,
but there seemed to be no way around it. Thanks.
