Formerly an ntlfreedom customer, was told my settings were the same
i.e same username and password would work with virgin media service,
upgraded to their 8MB broadband package with wireless access and
router, on win98se, however have been unable to access the net, used
their thompson speedtouch cdrom (although speedtouch was already
installed from previous ntlfreedom broadband service) but each time I
try and connect I receive a "failed to make a connection to the remote
computer" with dialup networking

If you've got a wireless router (what is it?) then you will be using
wired or wireless ethernet rather than dial up networking. Do you have
a network card in your machine?

You don't use dial-up networking with a router.

What router have they supplied ?
